Ragnar Trail West Virginia

Ragnar Trail West Virginia

This was my second year running the Ragnar Trail West Virginia race and it was good to be back in the beautiful Appalachians of West Virginia! For those who not heard of a Ragnar Trail race, Ragnar Trail is an all day and night team relay race consisting of two days and two nights of camping out in the great outdoors and best of all, RUNNING! Teams consist of 8 people (or 4 for ultra teams) and each person has to run the red, yellow…

Ragnar Trail Appalachians West Virginia

Ragnar Trail Appalachians West Virginia

My second time running a Ragnar Trail race! I originally was not planning on doing this race, but there were a few last minute drop outs and I was offered a spot on a team so I joined! I had a really good time running Ragnar Trail Richmond back in April so I was excited to see what West Virginia had in store for us! Let me reiterate a little from my last Ragnar post for those who have not…

Great Falls National Park (Maryland Side)

Great Falls National Park (Maryland Side)

Tucked away in the bustling metropolis of Northern Virginia is Great Falls National Park. Just a 30 minute drive from DC gets you a great escape from the hustle and bustle of life in the city. Great Falls features both a Virginia and Maryland side. My personal favorite is the Maryland side. The picture above was taken on my birthday back on May 5th at one of the overlooks. I couldn’t think of a better place to spend my birthday…

Ragnar Trail Richmond

Ragnar Trail Richmond

My very first Ragnar experience! I have always wanted to do one of these races, but always struggled with trying to find a team. I went to a local RWB luncheon and someone was looking for a teammate. It was an opportunity I could not pass up, so I joined. The trails have always been my favorite place to run and I have never done a trail race before, so I was very much looking forward to this event. For those who don’t…

Cascade Falls

Cascade Falls

Cascade Falls is located within the Jefferson National Forest with a stunning height of 66 feet (20.1m). There are two separate trails leading to the falls; the lower trail and the upper trail. Most people take the more scenic lower trail up to the falls while taking the upper less scenic trail back to the parking lot. At the start of the trail you will shortly arrive at a bridge. Crossing the bridge takes you towards the lower trail which…

Buttermilk Falls

Buttermilk Falls

The tallest waterfall in the state of New Jersey. Buttermilk Falls is located on the New Jersey side of the Delaware Water Gap National Recreation Area. This waterfall cascades 90 feet down the Kittatinny Ridge. I almost missed out on seeing this waterfall. With it being winter time, some of the roads were closed. I originally tried driving in from the north, but the dirt road was closed so I attempted to drive in through the south. The road was…

Roaring Run Falls

Roaring Run Falls

Roaring Run Falls is located in the Roaring Run Recreational Area. This waterfall was only about a 0.61 mile hike to the falls with a loop of 1.5 miles. I made my up on the Streamside Trail and back down on the Woodland Trail. The Streamside Trail was very scenic and crossed over a few rustic stone bridges. The trail was fairly easy. This hike even features a natural waterslide! Too bad it was winter time! On the way back…
